Summary:

This cloth is woven in the songket technique using a yarn made from the fibres of a plantain tree (Muse rextilis). Kapok yarn is used for the supplementary welf. The result is a hardy, water-resistant type of cloth called koffo. The Sangihe Talaud peoplesd use plantain yarn in the production of clothing, cloth, and sirih containers. Large koffo cloths were normally used as space dividers.
